Erected just a few months after the capture of the city of Berlin in 1945, this Soviet War Memorial sits in the Tiergarten, a large public park situated not far from the Brandenburg Gate.

Until the end of the Cold War, the memorial was guarded by several Soviet soldiers, even though it was located in the British sector of Berlin.

With my visit there I just stood in silence, contemplating the many people that gave their lives for the capture of Berlin from the Nazis.
